The polished, finished “Walk Away” is easy to find once it’s cleaned up and recorded. What’s harder to locate — and usually more interesting — is the earlier version where the writer is still fighting for the exact words and the rhythm isn’t settled yet. That’s the unfiltered take, the one that still has the struggle in it.
Most people never release those. They sit on hard drives, old cassettes, or get overwritten. If Geoff has that earlier version still around, that’s the one worth hearing. The finished song shows what it became. The rough one shows how it was found.
