Subject: Simple pilot idea – students + colony caregivers

I’ve been watching the work TNR Bakersfield and the other private groups are doing. You’re already carrying most of the load.
I have a simple idea that might help both the cats and the people feeding them.
Pair local high school or community college Animal Science students (with their teachers) with a few existing colony caregivers for one school year. The students get real hands-on experience under supervision. The caregivers get occasional skilled help and company without having to carry everything alone. The heavy pharmaceutical and surgery costs stay with the county as a public responsibility — not the individual caregivers and not your groups.

- Private TNR groups keep control of the medical side and the relationships.
- Schools already know how to handle liability and educational framing.
- County role is limited to funding the meds and surgeries, not running the program.
- One school year pilot, small number of colonies, clear documentation, then others can copy it if it works.
I’m on fixed income myself and manage colonies. I don’t need constant help, but I know the value of competent company and the cost of doing it all alone. This isn’t about credit or building anything with my name on it. If the idea is useful, use it. If it isn’t, no harm done.
I’m willing to help introduce the concept or stay in the background. Either way is fine.
