New Book d1

Here's the complete story, all in one piece:

**The Cat Man of Kern County**

One year ago, I had just been fired from my job when I saw her — a feral cat crossing my porch with her tiny kitten. Something in me refused to look the other way.

That single moment changed the rest of my life.

The first kitten who truly stole my heart was a tiny gray one I named **Being**. When her brother was stolen right out of my yard, our bond became something much deeper. She started following me everywhere and sleeping on my chest.

Before I knew it, I wasn’t just feeding cats anymore — I had become their person.

Since then, my little colony has grown. There’s Monster, the fearless runt who was abandoned by his own mother and left to die. There’s my little black shadow, the silent one who follows me like a ghost and climbs my leg with her tiny claws when I take too long to pick her up.

There’s Piglet, Sissy, Vader, Grumpen, and DadCat — the big tom who’s getting fixed this Friday.

My days start at five in the morning. My arms stay covered in scratches. My coffee is always cold. And I haven’t had a truly peaceful morning in longer than I can remember.

But every single one of them knows they’re safe with me.

Some people might look at my life and see chaos. I look at it and see my family.

I’ve learned to read my cats better than I can read most people. I know when Being is pregnant again just by the way she moves her tail. I know when my little black shadow is content because she tucks her tail between my legs and goes completely still.

This wasn’t the life I planned. But somewhere along the way, it became the life I chose.

I’m sixty-six years old now. Most men my age are looking for peace and quiet. Instead, I have seven cats that depend on me completely.

This old dog is still learning new tricks.

And as long as these little ones need me, I’ll keep showing up — scratched arms, cold coffee, and all.

Because this is my pride.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
